Last May, together with my Mom and Older Sister, we went to visit Taiwan for the first time. Taiwan has been on my bucket list for so long and I haven't been outside the country since November and been itching to go out again.

This trip serves as a birthday and mother's day gift to our Mom as she turns 60 and she don't want a birthday party but wanted a travel birthday trip instead.

There are a lot of landmarks I wanted to see during this trip, but since my Mom can't tolerate long hours of travel and walking I arrange the tours in favor for her. But it doesn't stop us to enjoy the beauty of Taiwan.

Here, I'll list the places we've visited according to what I love most first.

1.

Jiufen. As I've said, Taiwan has always been on my bucket list of countries to visit, it deepens when I watch Jennleyn MErcado's movie together with Derek, that scene with so much red lanterns. I know it such a shallow for many but that view is spectacular. It reminds me so much of Christmas Season, my fave season actually, so seeing those makes me want to go there right away.

There's not much on Jiufen to see, honestly, but there are a lot of stalls that sells food and random items such as bags and clothes and different accessories.

2.

Shifen. A popular place for lanterns. Though personally, I am not a fan of it since it doesn't promote environment-friendly, but still, the vintage look and feel of the place is a must see. Another destination for those food lovers out there. You should try Milk Tea from Jin Fa Tang. First Milk Tea I've tried.

3.

Shifen Waterfall. Not far from Shifen main station is the magnificent waterfalls. Too bad, swimming is not allowed but definitely this gigantic waterfalls is a must see. Tourists may avail a cab going to jump off but if you are into exploration and budget trip you may just walk yourself there.

4.

Elephant Mountain. If you are into sporty side you may do a sidetrip hike at Elephant Mountain. From the top is a perfect view of Taipe 101. You may choose doing the hike during sunrise or sunset, but both will give you the satisfying view.

5.

Yehliu. Honestly, these are great spots for tourist but be mindful of the time of the day you're going to visit as crowd really flocks here.

6.

Ximending Night Market. We've been hitting this place every night since its just walking distance from our hotel. There are a lot of restaurants and stalls where you can buy food and souvenirs.

7. Chiang Kai Shek Memorial. Honestly, after our SEA backpacking trip, we kind of avoided temples landmarks, but visiting this Memorial is a learning experience as it is part of Taiwan history.

I'll update this as I just booked another trip this coming December. Will be going to flower farm and rainbow village :)

I don’t usually go to road most traveled places but there’s no denying that Kalanggaman Island should be on your list regardless how many times it was advertise or how people flock here so much.

Kalanggaman Island is definitely on my bucket list. But learning the cost and shouldering it on your own is not really advisable and wallet-friendly. Palompon Tourism made a way for us tipid biyaheros enjoy their famous island.

This blog is just a narration of our experience.

How To Get There

Kalanggaman Island is located in Visayas at the town of Palompon. If you’re coming from Manila, get a plane ride going to Tacloban City, Leyte. Outside the airport are different means of transportation going to Van terminals that will take you to Palompon. Just inform the driver. We ride a tricycle going to Van Vans. From there, take a van going to Palompon. Travel time may take up to 3 hours. There are no specific time of departure from the van terminal. Chance of waiting too long is expected since they will never leave until the van is full. From Palompon, make your way to the tourism office where you can join different groups going to the island.

If going back to the airport. Ask the tourism for the terminal going to tacloban. Schedule back to tacloban are until 4 pm only.

Boat Ride

The tourism made it possible for us to go to the island on a budget trip. If you are a solo traveler or just a small group not more than 5 or less than 10 you may join different groups. The tourism will ask you if you are just day tour or overnight. They will also ask you your preferred time of departure from the island and from those information they will include you on that time/boat. Because of that, you will no longer be bothered so much the cost. They will divide the cost of the boat to all the passengers.

Rate of pumboat as of December 2018
Php 3,000 – 15 Capacity Below
Php 3,500 – 25 Capacity Below
Php 4,000 – 30 Capacity Below

Tent

If you did not bring any tents with you or don’t want the hassle of bringing so much stuff on your trip you can always rent a tent at the tourism. Someone will approach you regarding this, if none, you can always ask where you can rent one. But to make sure, you can contact ahead of time Tatay Boy and inform his your intent on this number 0977-707-0533. We rent a tent for only 300php good for 3. If you want a bigger one just let him know so he can provide you what you need.

Registration/Entrance/Conservation Fee

Registration for overnight and day tour is not the same. For overnight the rate is 225 each. Please see rate below as of December 2018:

Me and my boyfriend spent only 1154 overnight for the both of us already.

Food

There are mini stores at the island but don’t expect much. I suggest buying all your needs before heading there, not to mention prices are way too high on the island. Don’t worry, the tourism office is located just beside the wet and dry market where you can buy supplies.

Tips and Guidelines

1. LEAVE NO TRACE
2. Let the boat knows where you are pitching your tent so they know where to locate you.
3. Be mindful of your time back to Palompon town proper.
4. Bring enough food and water
5. Follow guidelines at the resort. There can be drowning at the tip of the sandbar. Swimming is not allowed in there.
6. Bring source of light: flashlight, matches, candles.
7. There are toilets/showers but not fresh water at the island
8. NO FRESH WATER ON THE ISLAND
9. No power supply

You can actually visit temples and tourist attraction in Ayutthaya in a day. So if you’re staying at Bangkok and wants to see Ayutthaya trust me, it is possible. This post will help you how to do it on diy basis.

Since we are doing backpacking, time is very crucial as well as expenses. By this day we are already half-way through our travel and we are still going to two different countries so budgeting is really essential. We both decided to ditch Laos on this trip since it will be time consuming and fare back and forth will cost as much and I really want to see Ayutthaya.

Located 85 KM north of Bangkok, Ayutthaya is an ancient capital and modern city of Thailand. Ayutthaya having the ideal location between China, India, and the Malay Archipelago made this city the trading capital of Asia and even the world. And by 1700 it had become the largest city in the world with a toal of one million inhabitants.

Merchants from Europe declared the city as the finest one they had ever seen. The Dutch and French maps of the city shows gold-laden palaces, huge ceremonies and a  vast float of trading vessels from all over the world. But all this came to an end when the Burmese invaded Ayutthaya and almost completely burnt the city to the ground.

Now, a glimpse of the past can still be seen on what left of the city. But still, it was one of the most historical places I’ve seen during our backpacking trip. To help you understand why, here’s a quick travel guide and some photos from our day trip in Ayutthaya.

How To Get There

If you are staying in Bangkok City, make your way to MoChit Bus Station (or MoChit 2). From there, there are vans going to Ayutthaya. Fare per person is 4.75 USD. Travel time may take up to one and half hour.

Tour Packages?

Once in Ayutthaya, there are people stationed there that will offer you tour packages for a day. We cop ours for only 30 USD for the two of us! You can haggle of course. There are some who offers us 50 USD! Haggle is the key guys!

Where To Eat?

There are restaurants along the way and on the site itself has mini store. If you prefer, you can always bring foods with you esp water so save more money!

What To Visit?

When you avail of the tour packages you get to discuss which places and temples you want to see and which one first. Make sure to clarify it to your guide and from the tour coordinator. Your guide will be the tuktuk driver too.

Other Ways to Tour Ayutthaya?

There are plenty. Mind you, temples and tourist spots are far from each other so it is best to really know where you are going.
1.       -If you opt not to avail tour packages and do it on your own you may do so, if you want some exercise while roaming around and wants to paddle your way throughout the city, there are bike rentals, you can also ask for maps so you will not get lost.
2.       -DIY. From drop off of the van, there are tuktuk available and you may ask them to bring you to first temple you want to visit. You just have to wait at times if there’s any available tuktuk to where you are though.
3.       -If bike is available, so does renting a motorcycle, there are also some who will offer to drive it for you.

Entrances?

There is! But only on some temples and stupa. Your guide will let you know or you can always ask. If not, at the entrance, they will inform you about it. Entrance fees ranges from 20 BAHT to 50 BAHT. But trust me all worth it and its really cheap!

Tips

-Bring drinking water! Though there are stores there but if you want to save money just bring one for yourself and don’t forget to bring reusable water bottle! Let’s help save our planet.
-          -Wear appropriate clothes. Though its not really strict compared to Bangkok’s temples, but there will be other stupa who will ask if you have shawl if you’re wearing open shoulders.
-          -Bring foods. Biscuits and candies will do just to have something to munch on while doing the tour.
-          -Bring enough money. There are some cute souvenirs out there too.
-          -Respect. Need I elaborate more?
-          -Haggle guys! It’s not bad though just make it reasonable! Thai people are good and you can haggle with them just make sure to do your best :P
-          -Start early! Especially if you’re doing it during summer. Its really hot out there.
-          -Bring umbrellas or anything to protect you from sun.
-          -Bring towels. I sound like mom now. HAHA!
       - And try to avoid similar clothes to what I wore on this day. Blending in done right! The laughs we had during the entire trip! HAHAHAHAH!
-          -Have fun and enjoy! And make sure to learn something on your trip! It’s not a crime to ask people there of the history and story behind every stupa.

Of course you cannot see Bangkok in just a day. But, if you badly need to explore at least some parts of Bangkok make sure to explore the best it has. This travel guide will help you explore one of the finest Bangkok's landmarks.

We stayed in Thailand for only three days and with that short period of time we manage to visit Phuket, Bangkok, and Ayuttaya. But this post will focus on Bangkok.

Bangkok is one of the famous city in Southeast Asia and when one says Thailand, Bangkok definitely follows the name. I myself was so intrigued and eager to see this city and it is one on top of my list to see in Asia.

Thorough research is important on any trip, that is, of course according and base on my experience. But of course it will vary depending on someone's point of view on this. I love researching about the place I want to visit from its location, to entrance fees, how to get there, if I can just walk myself to it from where I'll be staying to opening hours and so on. It makes a lot of difference when you are prepared for what's out there. But funny thing about this is that, whatever you searched back home it can be really different once you're there and your itinerary can be interchange and can really change in an instant when you are in the actual place.

First, I suggest staying in Bangkok. This will give you enough time and can be at the landmark's as early as possible. There are a lot of hostels and cheap accommodations in Bangkok that will suit any budget travelers or solo backpackers like me. If you still haven't had any ideas, you can always book in booking.com where I always book my hotels.

Once in Bangkok, head straight to Thonburi where the landmarks: Wat Arun, Wat Pho, and Grand Palace can be seen. Wat Arun opens as early as 8:30 in the morning with 50 baht as entrance fee. Wat Pho starts receiving tourist as early as 8:00 am with entrance fee of 100 baht (with water included). Grand Palace entrance fee however is a lot more than the first two temples, with 500 baht as entrance fee, it opens at 8:30 in the morning. You may chose what to visit first but trust me you can visit these three in one day. These three has dress codes and strictly implemented that we must follow.

I list almost ten temples that we can see in Bangkok that sits almost near each other. But during our stay we manage to just visit two. I know, why just two? At first, we had a hard time locating the temple nearest to our hostel and really, we started after lunch time. We  came from our trip to Phuket and was so tired that we rest until noon. But if you can start early you may visit as much.

Tips
- Start your tour early so you can make the most of the day and can even check-out some nearby landmarks after finishing these three
- there are a lot of restaurants in front of Wat Pho so if you got hungry over roaming around
- aside from restaurants, there are a lot of souvenirs shops in front of Wat Pho and event near the pier station
- if you are coming from the other side you may cross the river for only 5 baht
- bring water bottle with you, the tour can be very tiring because you will do a lot of walking around. It can save you some penny instead of buying drinking water bottle
- bring some food if you want to
- follow dress codes, for women, wear long skirts or anything to cover your legs and also shoulders; temples are sacred for them
- respect the policies of each temples

If you are new to climbing, Mts. Manalmon and Gola should be on your list. It is definitely perfect for beginner and you can climb the two mountains in one day just like what we did. These mountains offers different view from the usual you have in Rizal. Though I always believe that all mountains are different.

Though some would say Manalmong and Gola are relatively easy, with 196 masl, it possess novel landscapes and Madlum river and monkey bar you should try for extra activity. The view on the top is definitely worth it.
