Let’s all admit it, this lockdown and quarantine period has gone most of us run out of things to do at home. Probably because we are used to do so many things outside our home. Most of us actually are not used to this kind of setup and has been on the edge thinking things to do while you are stuck at home.

For a diy-ers like me, a self-proclaimed crafters and artisan, I list all the possible things you might want to consider during this lockdown period. Prepare, for its going to be a little crafty here.

11.      Make a Seedling

I really wanted to make a list where every possible materials are on-hand since we are not allowed to go-out-go-out. So. For this number one on the list be realistic and if you’ve been wondering where to get some seeds, you can always rely on your fruits and vegetables. Those that have seeds in them, you can extract them and prepare them for seedling process.

Some basic vegetables you might want to consider is tomato, eggplants, bitter gourd (ampalaya), string bean (sitaw), gumbo (okra) and bell pepper. These lists are just some basic and common vegetables, definitely most of us eat and most especially real easy for seedling process and will take not so much time to grow (or of course it still depends).

To start, most people after extracting the seeds let it dry for a couple of days, but not too dry that its nutrients dried out as well, before planting it to your small cuppa. It could be anything, old tissue rolls, cup of yogurt, ice cream cup, or old egg holders.

To a more detailed instructions there are a lot of sources you can find on the internet as it can vary from one household to the other depending on what’s available.

22.      Read A Book

For book-readers like myself, I know for a fact that we all have that book that we want to read for long, but given the lack of time thereof, day job and everything in between, we postponed and the pile of books to read are now getting higher.

This time, you got a time to read THAT book that has been sitting for ages on your shelf or desktop. To make it a little more organize, set a goal, for a day or two, then jump on another book to red. But, if you feel like this will bore you, a little bit of in between tiny-bit project won’t hurt. This lead to our next thing we can do. But of course, a little snack and/or tea/coffee doesn’t hurt while diving in to that book.

33.       Make Cooking and Baking Fun Again

Of course, staying at home requires a lot of time in the kitchen because, eating. But for those people that are used to ordering their food and eating ready-to-eat, perhaps it is time to get back on your kitchen and learn a few basic cooking and/or baking.

If you don’t know where to start, researching is the first step but If you are on social-media, people has been posting different ways on how they cook their dish, you can take note from that as others are using alternatives most of the time since we are on a lockdown and we maximize what have on-hand.

As for our household, I’ve been baking without an oven. Well, been doing it even before the lockdown, so there’s that.

Also, if you have kids, this could be a learning and fun activity for you. I’ve tried that Dalgona craze and its superb, works well with MILO too!

44.       Learn Something New

Online tutorials are everywhere, from diy stuff, from food, to how to draw, to how to setup an indoor garden, to different foreign languages and a lot more. As for me, I’ve been learning how to doodle and to draw. Youtube has been my bestfriend ever since my Macrame days. And trust me you can search and surely you’ll found one in there.

Just make sure, your chosen diy project materials are readily available at your home.

55.       Exercise

Since we are advise to eat healthy food and to stay healthy, exercising is part of it. We need to keep our lungs and muscle still functioning at its best. Again, if you don’t know where to start, youtube has it all.

You can search for a 7-day challenge to 15-day to 30-day. Depending on how you want to challenge yourself. I, myself has been learning and doing a 30-day yoga and I only downloaded from Yoga With Adriene on youtube.

66.       Spend Quality Time With Your Family

We’ve been really busy all our lives and I know most get to spend time with their Family on weekends only and some not at all. Make this time a time for your Family. Play any inside games, like board games or mind games, or video games, or any games your family wants to try.

77.       Clean Your Room

Yes, esp ladies, I know we’ve got some pile of clothes somewhere in your closet that needs an attention. You can sort them and perhaps if not needed anymore, donate it for later after lockdown.

Or, your room has been a mess and you’ve been dying to find free time to clean it but haven’t got luck before, so now is the time. You can make a small to huge makeover, turning over the interior or adding diy projects to your wall or anything.

But most importantly, stay at home, guys. Stay healthy.

Last May, together with my Mom and Older Sister, we went to visit Taiwan for the first time. Taiwan has been on my bucket list for so long and I haven't been outside the country since November and been itching to go out again.

This trip serves as a birthday and mother's day gift to our Mom as she turns 60 and she don't want a birthday party but wanted a travel birthday trip instead.

There are a lot of landmarks I wanted to see during this trip, but since my Mom can't tolerate long hours of travel and walking I arrange the tours in favor for her. But it doesn't stop us to enjoy the beauty of Taiwan.

Here, I'll list the places we've visited according to what I love most first.

1.

Jiufen. As I've said, Taiwan has always been on my bucket list of countries to visit, it deepens when I watch Jennleyn MErcado's movie together with Derek, that scene with so much red lanterns. I know it such a shallow for many but that view is spectacular. It reminds me so much of Christmas Season, my fave season actually, so seeing those makes me want to go there right away.

There's not much on Jiufen to see, honestly, but there are a lot of stalls that sells food and random items such as bags and clothes and different accessories.

2.

Shifen. A popular place for lanterns. Though personally, I am not a fan of it since it doesn't promote environment-friendly, but still, the vintage look and feel of the place is a must see. Another destination for those food lovers out there. You should try Milk Tea from Jin Fa Tang. First Milk Tea I've tried.

3.

Shifen Waterfall. Not far from Shifen main station is the magnificent waterfalls. Too bad, swimming is not allowed but definitely this gigantic waterfalls is a must see. Tourists may avail a cab going to jump off but if you are into exploration and budget trip you may just walk yourself there.

4.

Elephant Mountain. If you are into sporty side you may do a sidetrip hike at Elephant Mountain. From the top is a perfect view of Taipe 101. You may choose doing the hike during sunrise or sunset, but both will give you the satisfying view.

5.

Yehliu. Honestly, these are great spots for tourist but be mindful of the time of the day you're going to visit as crowd really flocks here.

6.

Ximending Night Market. We've been hitting this place every night since its just walking distance from our hotel. There are a lot of restaurants and stalls where you can buy food and souvenirs.

7. Chiang Kai Shek Memorial. Honestly, after our SEA backpacking trip, we kind of avoided temples landmarks, but visiting this Memorial is a learning experience as it is part of Taiwan history.

I'll update this as I just booked another trip this coming December. Will be going to flower farm and rainbow village :)

I don’t usually go to road most traveled places but there’s no denying that Kalanggaman Island should be on your list regardless how many times it was advertise or how people flock here so much.

Kalanggaman Island is definitely on my bucket list. But learning the cost and shouldering it on your own is not really advisable and wallet-friendly. Palompon Tourism made a way for us tipid biyaheros enjoy their famous island.

This blog is just a narration of our experience.

How To Get There

Kalanggaman Island is located in Visayas at the town of Palompon. If you’re coming from Manila, get a plane ride going to Tacloban City, Leyte. Outside the airport are different means of transportation going to Van terminals that will take you to Palompon. Just inform the driver. We ride a tricycle going to Van Vans. From there, take a van going to Palompon. Travel time may take up to 3 hours. There are no specific time of departure from the van terminal. Chance of waiting too long is expected since they will never leave until the van is full. From Palompon, make your way to the tourism office where you can join different groups going to the island.

If going back to the airport. Ask the tourism for the terminal going to tacloban. Schedule back to tacloban are until 4 pm only.

Boat Ride

The tourism made it possible for us to go to the island on a budget trip. If you are a solo traveler or just a small group not more than 5 or less than 10 you may join different groups. The tourism will ask you if you are just day tour or overnight. They will also ask you your preferred time of departure from the island and from those information they will include you on that time/boat. Because of that, you will no longer be bothered so much the cost. They will divide the cost of the boat to all the passengers.

Rate of pumboat as of December 2018
Php 3,000 – 15 Capacity Below
Php 3,500 – 25 Capacity Below
Php 4,000 – 30 Capacity Below

Tent

If you did not bring any tents with you or don’t want the hassle of bringing so much stuff on your trip you can always rent a tent at the tourism. Someone will approach you regarding this, if none, you can always ask where you can rent one. But to make sure, you can contact ahead of time Tatay Boy and inform his your intent on this number 0977-707-0533. We rent a tent for only 300php good for 3. If you want a bigger one just let him know so he can provide you what you need.

Registration/Entrance/Conservation Fee

Registration for overnight and day tour is not the same. For overnight the rate is 225 each. Please see rate below as of December 2018:

Food

There are mini stores at the island but don’t expect much. I suggest buying all your needs before heading there, not to mention prices are way too high on the island. Don’t worry, the tourism office is located just beside the wet and dry market where you can buy supplies.

Tips and Guidelines

1. LEAVE NO TRACE
2. Let the boat knows where you are pitching your tent so they know where to locate you.
3. Be mindful of your time back to Palompon town proper.
4. Bring enough food and water
5. Follow guidelines at the resort. There can be drowning at the tip of the sandbar. Swimming is not allowed in there.
6. Bring source of light: flashlight, matches, candles.
7. There are toilets/showers but not fresh water at the island
8. NO FRESH WATER ON THE ISLAND
9. No power supply

Aside from the cheapest room, they also offer meals and drinks to their customers. Their staff is very accommodating that they even help me look for someone who can bring me to Balacay Point in Baras. Too bad I can't afford the price. It' s 700php, uggr too costly for me. Good thing I met this guy who helped me visit Baras!

First, it is not a white beach that most of us thought. Seeing all the photos over internet I really thought that this beach is as white as those in the photos I saw. Okay, I know some would say, it's in Zambales what do you expect? Again, this blog post is just about what I have witnessed face to face. I mean, let's admit it, we've used filters more than it is needed that the place became so different in personal.

But we also have to take into account those who uses high quality camera and good photographers that turn every places into magical one. Or some just happened to have a good quality camera, I think I fall on latter. K.

Please bear in mind that I used Fujifilm XA2 in advance settings in taking all of the photos here.
I am not saying that Crystal Beach is not great its just that I based my expectation from what I saw online.

Okay, let's move on from this. Overall I enjoyed my short stay here. The place is great and chill.

Here's a travel guide going to Crystal Beach Resort

How to go there?

Option 1

If you are coming from Manila, ride a bus going to Iba, Zambales and alight at San Narciso. Make sure to inform the ticketing employee that you are going to San Narciso. Fare is a lot much higher if you will not mention you are heading to San Narciso only. Fare is 270. Travel time may take up to 4 hrs.

Victory liner has a regular trip to Iba, Zambales. Please check their site for updated time of the trip. But as of January 2017, first trip is 5:00 AM.

From San Narciso, there's a tricycle terminal in front of the Church and tell the driver you are heading to Crystal Beach. Fare is 20 pesos each. Travel time may take up to 10-15mins.

Option 2

If you want to arrive in Zambales as early as sunrise you may do so. Its just you have to cut trip.

From Manila, ride a bus going to Olongapo, fare is 212 (victory liner) travel time is 2 and half hours, from Olongapo catch a bustrip to Iba or San Pedro and tell the kundoktor you are alighting at San Narciso. Fare is 53 pesos. Travel time is almost an hour.

Victory liner has a regular trip to Olongapo. Please check their site for updated time of the trip. But as of January 2017, first trip is 1:00 AM. Then 3 AM. We take the 3am trip.

From San Narciso, there's a tricycle terminal in front of the Church and tell the driver you are heading to Crystal Beach. Fare is 20 pesos each. Travel time may take up to 10-15mins.

We did Option 2.

Terminal of tricycle

Accommodation and Entrance Fee

Best option is to bring your own tent and pitch on their camp site. If you have your own tent 1 pax is 550php. That is inclusive of entrance and 250php consumable of foods and drinks.

Honestly, we bring our own foods to lessen the expenses, but the 250php is forced and they call it "package" so we end up taking it anyway for we have no choice. When I messaged Crystal Beach on facebook they did not mention about this. They told me that the entrance fee is 295 if you have your own tent.

If you prefer getting a room you may do so, they have a wide range of rooms available, from fan room to airconditioned. Rate ranges from 1,700 php to 11,250. It will depend on the number of pax and all of the room accommodation are inclusive of breakfast.

Outside the resort, there is store that offers a tent for rent, I just don't know the price.

The only photo I did manage to take. Pardon :P

Inclusive of entrance fee for the room capacity.

Day Trip?

Possible. Day entrance fee is 195 per person. Picnic hut by the beach is 500 php good for 6 persons.

the nipa huts in the morning

nipa huts photo taken at night

Activities Offered

  • Surf lessons by Quicksilver Surf School
- 400 php/hour/person inclusive of board and instructor's fee.
- 200 php/hour for board rentals only

Too bad during our stay they are on maintenance? So my friend wasn't able to try surfing. You may rent a board but that is if you used to surf before and doesn't need any instructor. I could surf myself but since my friend will end up just watching me and I don't want that so we just chill in the beach instead.

  • Island Hopping to Capones and Camara Island, Anawangin Cove - you may ask the help desk for the quotation of price

  • Waterfalls Tour -

Yep. It's Allowed.

One of the guest's pet

Parking?

Yep. They have parking lot inside.

Souvenirs?

Yep, they've got it all covered too.

Is it Safe?

As per the receptionist, cases of theft has been reported especially on Kampsite 2. So make sure to take care of your belongings. Honestly, when we heard this, we were like, oh okay what now. Just to make sure, bring your stuff everywhere.

Did we lost anything during our stay? Yeah. But no biggie. As I've mentioned above we bring foods, that includes a whole loaf bread and tuna spread that I made during our stay in the resort. We left the bag of foods outside the tent because we don't want any ants going inside our tent if ever they decided to invade our left-overs. When we were packing up I realized that the tupperware where we mix the tuna spread is missing. It is when we were eating in Pampanga that I realized that the half of loaf bread has gone missing too. No biggie, maybe they are that hungry and we would love to share anyway.
