I don’t usually go to road most traveled places but there’s no denying that Kalanggaman Island should be on your list regardless how many times it was advertise or how people flock here so much.

Kalanggaman Island is definitely on my bucket list. But learning the cost and shouldering it on your own is not really advisable and wallet-friendly. Palompon Tourism made a way for us tipid biyaheros enjoy their famous island.

This blog is just a narration of our experience.

How To Get There

Kalanggaman Island is located in Visayas at the town of Palompon. If you’re coming from Manila, get a plane ride going to Tacloban City, Leyte. Outside the airport are different means of transportation going to Van terminals that will take you to Palompon. Just inform the driver. We ride a tricycle going to Van Vans. From there, take a van going to Palompon. Travel time may take up to 3 hours. There are no specific time of departure from the van terminal. Chance of waiting too long is expected since they will never leave until the van is full. From Palompon, make your way to the tourism office where you can join different groups going to the island.

If going back to the airport. Ask the tourism for the terminal going to tacloban. Schedule back to tacloban are until 4 pm only.

Boat Ride

The tourism made it possible for us to go to the island on a budget trip. If you are a solo traveler or just a small group not more than 5 or less than 10 you may join different groups. The tourism will ask you if you are just day tour or overnight. They will also ask you your preferred time of departure from the island and from those information they will include you on that time/boat. Because of that, you will no longer be bothered so much the cost. They will divide the cost of the boat to all the passengers.

Rate of pumboat as of December 2018
Php 3,000 – 15 Capacity Below
Php 3,500 – 25 Capacity Below
Php 4,000 – 30 Capacity Below

Tent

If you did not bring any tents with you or don’t want the hassle of bringing so much stuff on your trip you can always rent a tent at the tourism. Someone will approach you regarding this, if none, you can always ask where you can rent one. But to make sure, you can contact ahead of time Tatay Boy and inform his your intent on this number 0977-707-0533. We rent a tent for only 300php good for 3. If you want a bigger one just let him know so he can provide you what you need.

Food

There are mini stores at the island but don’t expect much. I suggest buying all your needs before heading there, not to mention prices are way too high on the island. Don’t worry, the tourism office is located just beside the wet and dry market where you can buy supplies.

Tips and Guidelines

1. LEAVE NO TRACE
2. Let the boat knows where you are pitching your tent so they know where to locate you.
3. Be mindful of your time back to Palompon town proper.
4. Bring enough food and water
5. Follow guidelines at the resort. There can be drowning at the tip of the sandbar. Swimming is not allowed in there.
6. Bring source of light: flashlight, matches, candles.
7. There are toilets/showers but not fresh water at the island
8. NO FRESH WATER ON THE ISLAND
9. No power supply

Sharing our piece of home with everyone who has the same point of view and principles that we have. Hide In will probably be new or old news to people who goes to beach regularly. And I believe that there are two types of beach goers out there.  The one looking for solidarity and peace of mind and the one lacking with sensitivity and just out there doing nothing but fun. Fun is good, but in moderation and with high sensitivity with their surroundings.

Hide In did not just offer comfort on your entire stay but a chance to be with, interact, and understands more the importance of Mother Nature. Be it in our two room accommodation with excellent view of different trees and the river at our backyard or camping and hammock at our camp grounds exactly right in the middle of the woods with just fresh air and the chirping of different kinds of birds and the sound of the leaves touching with each other as your company.

As you see, Hide In coexists with Mother Nature. Everything we do here benefits the environment. We are no pro, only love for our mother nature. We are just like most everyone before, we used too much plastics especially those one-time-use plastics, the disposables, and similar items that can harm our Earth and truly destroy it in the future. But we come to our senses; we realize different things and it broadened our views about eco-life by living near our seas and in the woodlands. The danger these things can do needs to stop and needs to put to end. Surely it will not stop in just a blink of an eye. It is a long process just as we are doing it. But it is better to do it now than to do it later.

Our goal is to promote eco-friendly camp. That through our camp we can educate people especially our guests how to live harmoniously with our environment and how to take care of them and to make them understand the importance of them being taken care of by us even in the smallest things we do that we don’t think won’t matter. We discourage single-use plastics, we provide mineral drinking water for free at our camp; just bring your own refillable water bottle, we provide sets of utensils: water glasses, spoons and forks, and plates that you can wash after.

This home is not perfect. We are still in the process and still learning and doing everything we can in our own little ways to save our Mother Nature. Respect should be given to everyone around us. We cannot love everything but we can respect everything: the neighbors, the animals, the nature, and the beliefs of each one of us. Let us be one for our nature so the kids in the future, our kids can still enjoy what we have before, what we have now.

The Family that you will meet here can be your family too. Let’s hang out over bonfire while watching good old movies at night, or you can go surfing lesson for acceptable rate from us, our surfer boys will be delighted to assist you with the lesson, or you can play with our growing resident pets: Alfonso, Puti, and Noynoy, or you can try our homemade recipes especially our everyday silog tapa meal, or go sight-seeing on two different falls in our town, or help us monetary by buying souvenirs handcrafted by us.

Sea you at our camp grounds and let us chill and forget the busy city life for a while in the heart of Mother Nature.

How To Get Here?
