It's amazing how places can be so similar with each other. How a certain paradise has its same version somewhere around the globe. With Batanes giving us hard time to witness and visits its beauty, there are some places alternative to that. (Though now, there are much cheaper flights to Batanes.)

Given the fact about Batanes, discoveries of different places captures travel enthusiasts and the likes when they've found similar landscapes like of Batanes, there's Batanes of The West, Batanes of The East, and Batanes of The South.

Batanes of The South is located in Catanduanes. The so-called Binurong Point is now gaining fame because of its similarities with Batanes. Though I've never been to Batanes myself so I cannot really attest to this but what can I attest is that Binurong Point has its own beauty and charm that you must see.

What I love about Binurong Point is that, like Batanes, its hard to visit too. Don't get me wrong, people nowadays thrash precious places they've been visiting. Not to general all who travels but the thrash that's been left behind by most of the tourists now are alarming. And this kind of paradise should be kept hidden and saved from all of those who will just makes this paradise a paradies. That's why whenever I organize trips I always make it a point to introduce eco-friendly travel to my joiners and friends.

With that being said, Binurong Point is located in Catanduanes, a province in Bicol Region that requires butt-numbing bus land travels and a boat ride and another land travel and then a hike to get to see this view.

Bicol Region has been my favorite region in Luzon. They have everything that I crave for in such a place. The landscapes, the view, the rock formations, the waves, those surfing spots, the locals, the kind-hearted welcome from certain group of people that will forever be my family in the south.

Binurong Point is certainly one of those must-see landscapes out there but we all must protect it and nurture and leave it as is if we want the future generations to see these beauty too.

More photos below!

This was taken during my organize trip last year. We're going back to Catanduanes this June! And we are inviting you guys to join us on this trip. You can always reach us on our facebook page. Link on the right side bar. :)

Happy eco-friendly travel guys!

The goal is to climb at least one mountain on each province of the Philippines especially the highest one. But given the time and of course the budget that I have for travel makes it hard for me to do so. So, I take any opportunity possible. My third visit to Sorsogon makes it an opportunity to climb one of the mountains in the province: Mt. Pulog. Honestly, its Mt. Bulusan that I've been dying to climb since but it was not yet open to public because of consecutive minor phreatic explosions recently or during the time of my visits at the province.

Searching for other alternatives I discoverd Mt. Pulog, they say that when you have a nice clearing at the summit you will see Mt. Mayon and Mt. Bulusan from there. By my words, you already understand that I did not have a nice clearing during my attempt.

Standing at 1020+ masl, Mt. Pulog is located at Bacon in Sorsogon and dayhikable or you may do overnight since there's a camp site there.

I am not aware of the weather conditions of Bicol region. I did not know that typhoons most likely hit that part of the country during Ber months. My attempt to climb Mt. Pulog happened last December of 2017 and yes I did not have clearing nor was able to reach the summit.

The day before my climb it was raining overnight. I am praying for a nice weather the following day and they gave it to me. The sun is shining and I am ready to take my first climb in the Bicol region. Upon meeting up my guide, Kuya Dante's son, sky is going to not feeling really well. Yep, the sky turns gray. I was feeling nervous not because of the rain but because I will surely don't have any clearing.

It is not my first time to climb mountain while raining. But it is my first time to climb while raining wearing a sandals and it was the worst and I promise myself not to wear sandals on any future hike. I got lots of wounds because the trail is so muddy and all. I am not against or being vain about it, its just my pace was not good during that time because I have to endure the wounds that was consistently rubbing to my sandals while walking and it tears more flesh than restrain it.

Upon arriving at the camp site me and my guide take a short break and discussed our predicament. It started to rain so hard and I am in no way far away on my trauma on blood sucking friends at the mountains. And I am not ready with another encounter with them. Again, not being vain about it but I have a worst experience from leeches and limatiks. And entering that zone after the campsite as per my guide is limatik infested and with so much rain and bloody feet we abort the climb.

When we reach the house of Kuya Dante and I was able to change to dry clothes the sun slowly showing its brightness and I know that time the weather is screwing with me. Better luck next time I guess. And I will surely make a revenge climb on Mt. Pulog.

My failed to summit attempt at Mt. Pulog was dated last December 19, 2016.

Tip:
- Guide is required. You may contact Kuya Dante on this number 09478165446/09489497957
- Don't climb during BER months. If you want a clearing.
- Bring enough water
- Bring protection from limatiks
- Bring food
- Expect worst during rainy days.
- Bring firstaids

JOIN ME AS I REVISIT CATANDUANES THIS COMING LONG WEEKEND ON AUGUST 19-21! VISIT THIS LINK FOR THE EVENT DETAILS https://www.facebook.com/events/135408127012630/

How to go there via San Andres Port

From Manila there are buses going to Tabaco Port, Albay. Fare is 850php air-conditioned via Cagsawa Bus, their terminal is in Ali Mall. Travel time is around 12 hrs. I chose Cagsawa as per my friend's advise because they have the most comfortable seats. Swear!

From Tabaco Port, ride a RORO going to San Andres, first trip is 7 am. Fare is 220php for non-air-conditioned. There is a terminal fee 30php. There is airconditioned, I just don't know the price but its much higher. Fastcraft is also available but not until 12nn and I have a tight schedule so no time should gone to waste by waiting.

Again, as per my friend, it is advisable to take the San Andres port instead of Virac. Travel time via San Andres port is 2-3 hours whereas via Virac it will take up to 3-4 hours. Both depending on the waves of the sea. Since most of the spot in Catanduanes starts in Virac, from San Andres port you can ride a jeepney going to Virac. Travel time will take about 20-30 minutes.

There are jeepneys parked outside that heads to Virac. Tell the driver where you are heading so they can drop you there. Fare is 20php.

I'm in hiatus for almost two months on travelling my beloved country. My comeback is my trip to two of the most popular provinces of Bicol Region: CamSur and Albay.

The fact that I am not allowed to hike and run at the moment makes me feel so paralyze for some reason. So this trip serves as comfort from all the 'don'ts' that is happening to me now. Though my knee is still not in its best form to travel long I still did anyway, I just need to.

Mount Mayon, or Mayon Volcano, is an active volcano here in the Philippines and is located in the province of Albay on the island of Luzon and is the highest point in the province. Mount Mayon renowned as the "Perfect Cone" because of its almost symmetric conical shape. It has been said that it erupted 49 times in the past 400 years.

Legend says that the name of the volcano came from this beautiful lady named "Daragang Magayon" means beautiful lady (daraga-lady or maiden, magayon-beautiful). They named the volcano "Bulkang Magayon" describing the perfect-cone shape of the volcano like the beauty of Daragang Magayon, but as days passed by it was shortened to "Mayon".

I was a bit sad when we arrived at Cagsawa ruins because obviously there is no clearing of the whole mountain. But according to the old folks, on certain days like on the photo above, when the tip of the volcano is covered by clouds, Panginoron is kissing Magayon. Knowing this gives so much relief that I didn't get to see Mt. Mayon clearly, if this old folks saying is true then I even witnessed the most romantic love nature story there is.

Admiring Mount Mayon in Legazpi Albay dated last May 22, 2016, is an official entry to my 81 before 30 challenge.
