I fell in love with Romblon the moment I saw the photos on the internet and the possible pristine beach I will soon set foot. It’s been almost three months since I left my job and was hired and soon to start another chapter on this company but I wanted to cross one province and just take on a vacation before I start the job.

There’s no better choice than the province you’re supposed to visit but failed so here I am traveling to Romblon.

Romblon is another islets from 1707 islands of the Philippines. The Romblon itself has three islets: Sibuyan, Romblon, and . Climbing Mt. Guiting Guiting is on my bucket list but I know I can’t yet that time and I really want to indulge on some beach so I chose to visit Romblon, Romblon, instead who happens to have enough beach you can choose from or visit all for they are all stunning.

I messaged my favorite travel buddy, Belle, and aske her if she can go with me on short notice, for I know she can and she will, she said yes, of course and we head to Romblon, Romblon.

Getting to Romblon, Romblon is time consuming for you need to ride a bus going to Batangas port and from there ride a ferry going to the island that may take up to 12 hours sea travel. But you may fly through PAL but of course refular fare is costly and they don’t have every day trip to the island.

It was a fun and another bucket list ticked off because I get to ride a ferry for the first time. We chose the economy which is a bad idea. If I’m not sleepy that night and tired from the bus travel I will not be able to sleep because of these men drinking alcohol and smoking and chatting so loudly as if they are the only people on the ferry, as if it is not night and the rest are already sleeping.

Moving on, I chose to stay at San Pedro Beach for it has the most inviting accommodation of all. The beach is really far away from city, well, the island itself is unspoiled and pure perfections. No any kind of pollution no factories no commercial establishments just pure local folks and I know from that moment on I fell in love. How can some place be like this so untouched and serene? It feels like Bantayan Island of Cebu and it is as perfect as like that.

If you prefer a quiet and peaceful and really a simple life Romblon Romblon is the best place for you. My friend is thinking of buying some land there actually for like me she fell in love with the island too.

Arriving at the beach I know we will have a good relaxing stay and we had. The place is just perfect and quite. Though its just 30 minutes from the port that place is secluded. There were no guests, just us, so it feels like we rent the whole beach all for ourselves. The beach was owned by --- and used to be a resthouse by the family but ---- needs to go to Manila for medication. They open the beach to travelers and offers a great deal. Glad they did!

The beach has eight nipa huts with bathroom inside. There are non- and aircondition room to choose from. They also have their own restaurant which serves Filipino cuisine and some international meals like English breakfast and pastas. I highly recommend the tuna pasta! I ordered that for three times during our entire stay! HAHA!

Whenever I visit a province the very first thing in my mind is that “how’s sunset there?” if you know me personally, I have a huge fascination with sunsets and I collect every sunsets to each place I visited. And Romblon has one of a kind sunsets, too! I just stare at it until it was gone and I knew then on that this place is one of the best place I’ve been to.

After eating dinner, of course, the tuna pasta again, we head back to our cabin and doze off.

I woke up early to catch sunrise but I know sunrise will be on the other side but fret not, the beach is all mine so picture time and swimming time! Ugggr writing this brings back all the memories from that trip. I miss that kind of ambience.

It was kinda late when my friend woke up and she head outside to run. After that we went on the other side of the beach to explore. We were fascinated by the school of fish!!! WOW! As in WOW! They were playing on the water as if they know we are watching them. I asked my friend if she wants to visit some other beach near the place for I really want to visit the sandbard but she says she’s fine with the San Pedro Beach and just want to stay in one of the hammock and rest, I can’t  blame her, for she’s busy about work and all and I just agree with her. Nothing beats a relaxing ambience by the beach.

After drinking more beer and staying more at the hammock we slept a bit for later that night we are going back to Manila.

Don’t worry about it being secluded, the beach has a contact for the tricycle so you can just asked them and tell them what time you want to be picked-up.

Romblon is so much peaceful at night. We waited for the ferry to arrive since it was delayed we stayed on this restaurant beside the port. I was craving real bad for sisig for our entire stay. Too bad the landlady at the beach don’t know how to cook sisig so yeah my cravings were heightened. The cook on the restaurant heard that we are looking for sisig. Heaven on earth and he asked the server to get the chicken and he will make a special sisig just for us. Thank you, po!

Romblon has so much to offer and I am looking forward to visiting the other islets and hopefully climb the Mt. Guiting Guiting in the next months.

The trip that makes me fall in love in Romblon dated last September 5-7 2016 is an official entry to my 81 Before 30 Challenge.

I never left a province this painfully. Haay Sorsogon what did you do to me? Really? But life must go on and I need to complete my Bicol Region backpacking so wipe out the tears and let’s go to my last province: Masbate.

Masbate is like Catanduanes in terms on how to get there. It is an isolated island and yes, RORO is needed to get there. Learning about the fastcraft from my Catanduanes trip, I chose this for the waves going to Masbate is, uhm, you know, scary. I had enough of Bicol peninsula waves on my skin from our Calaguas trip few years back. Oooops.

Let the waves begin :P

Anyway, it was around 12 noon when the fastcraft leaves Pili, Sorsogon and head to Masbate. It was a freakin 3 hours of praying and contemplating on why am I doing this travelling, really, (insert laughing teary emoticon here) the waves never fail me. The waves were like mad, Poseidon, what’s up? Keep calm please. Kidding aside, no, the trip was one hell of a ride. The craft is airconditioned and it feels like a submarine! I don’t know, I never ride a submarine before but I just had a feeling it feels like that, I mean there are only a little window to see where we are at the moment and I’m seated in the middle of two big fellow. Ha! Yep imagine that, it feels like one of those comedy movie you saw. Get the picture? But they are all good I’m just trying you guys to picture the situation I had. :P

uhm, yeah?

Imagine the relief arriving at the port of Masbate alive. Honestly, I’ve been observing the people around me during the whole travel, I really wanted to sleep for I feel so sleepy I don’t have enough sleep the night before but I’m fighting that because I don’t want to wake up by the thought of you know what it is. Is this post getting a bit not helpful? Don’t be. My apologies. I’m just narrating what happened on my trip.

My room :D

I stayed at Balay Valencia. It was a rustic and vintage kind of inn owned by a family. If you watch the movie “Gwapings” that’s the feeling but I don’t say that its not a good catch, no, its actually a perfect place for me. I am always a fan of quite accommodation and away from city kind of inn. Plus the folks here are all nice and really accommodating.

I arrive late already and I need to get going for I need to go to Buntod Reef and from the sea travel I’ve been to I need to do this immediately for waves are getting angrier late afternoon to sundown :P

Rode a pedicab and ask to drop me to Buntod Reef jump-off. I did contact the president of the sanctuary so a boat is expecting me to arrive that day. Since it was just me it will not take so much time. Swimming is allowed but I opted not to anymore. Another mistake.

Low tide!

It was 5 in the afternoon when we left the jump-off and head to the reef. It only takes about 10 minutes getting there. And from afar you can already see the sandbar. How pure and pristine and white! Exploring the place will not take so much time for the only thing you will do is take a picture, dine-in, snorkeling, and swimming. The president is kind enough to be my photographer that afternoon. Dios Mabalos!

After an hour we left the reef and they bring me to this other side of the port where you can dine-in to floating cottages but its not open that day so the boatman just take a photo of me. Dios Mabalos!

Sunset while on the boat is one of the amazing feeling. Admiring from where you are with the smell of sea and air that is not contaminated by any pollution is just a precious gift from nature.

Heading back to Balay I’m ready to tease myself for some horror-flick. Again, I don’t mind. It’s actually a favorite genre of mine. J

I slept early that night, I slept well actually, maybe because I am so tired and has lack of sleep from the previous days. The following day I head to their town’s church for church is always on the list and after that head to the capitol because I wanted to take a photo on the MASBATE signage at the capitol. I think its mandatory nowadays. ;)

Masbate City is the Rodeo Capital of the Philippines but I haven't seen one on my trip except for statues on the city. They have this festival during April.

Cathedral Parish of Saint Anthony of Padua

It is raining that day and I don’t want to be caught up again on the waves so I grab my things and head to the port immediately. Scared cat ellie.

The initial plan is to travel from Masbate to Romblon but since the weather is not so good and as per the landlady of the Balay told me that waves there are much worse I decided to reschedule my Romblon trip some other time.

My last visited province in Bicol Region "Masbate" dated last August 20, 2016 is an official entry to my 81 Before 30 Challenge.

Sunset before full moon

--------------------------------------------------
Book your trip with Booking.com! It's safe and can guarantee low price!
--------------------------------------------------

It was put on hold for a week. I don't know but everytime I get this feeling that I don't want to continue a certain trip I really reschedule it. Well, I did reschedule for a day, The initial plan is to travel last Apr 3 of this month, then I rescheduled it the following day, when I'm about to leave, exact;y two hours ago an earthquake hit Batangas and nearby provinces. I hesitate at first but given all the other hesitations beforehand I consider this a sign and never left at all on that day and on the following days. I know we have certain beliefs on this, but this is mine, so.

Moving on, I really am desperate to go elsewhere that has a beach where I can be alone by myself. Yep, I crave to have my 10th solo province soonest since it was months since my last. And I know Maniwaya Island is a perfect spot to be alone.

Perfect place to be alone, isn't?

For one week I postponed the trip. Given the following week is holyweek and I don't want to be there during peak season esp from Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday, for I know people will flock there because its a super long weekend.

Another point taken was, I said to myself before that the next time I am visiting a beach is during full moon. I wasn't aware of the moon phase because I was too busy that time but a good friend of mine mentioned if I saw the moon because it looks amazing and I run immediately upstairs to see for myself. Then I look over the internet and viola! Full moon is about to happen in two days. That night, I left. Yep. That was April 9, 2017. Sunday night I took of and head to the nearest terminal going to Quezon. The entry point to Marinduque, specifically to Maniwaya Island.

I arrive almost midnight of Sunday, April 9, at Jam Liner in Kamuning just in time for the bus to leave going to Lucena. There were no flock of passengers yet that time and not all are going to Lucena. I think when I alight at Grand Terminal in Lucena there were only four passengers left and all alighted first.

It was three in the morning when I arrive at Lucena Grand Terminal, there are already few passengers, maybe because it is vacation and holy week already. As I have been told by my older sister who already visited Maniwaya Island last year, they arrive around the same time as mine but left the terminal almost five in the morning because the van will wait for passengers or until the van is almost full. But us? we left right in time.

I was dropped at different point in Quezon. It seems that General Luna came before and much earlier and I was pretty much sleeping. The driver is kind enough to drop me on one of the terminals of van going back to Lucena and instruct the next driver to drop me at General Luna diversion and advice me not to fall asleep this time. WAHA! Anyway, they did not let me pay anymore. That was almost an hour back ride. Thank you, locals! Appreciate it much.

Arriving at diversion I took a tricycle going to the port. There were some morions preparing for a parade I think. And I feel sad for not being able to see the famous Moriones Festival in mainland.

It was around eight in the morning when I arrive at the port. Waiting game starts for the first boat that goes to Maniwaya Island leaves at ten in the morning. It's a passenger boat and fare is 150 pesos for one way.

Boat travel time is almost an hour and half. It's a quick and peaceful journey. No big waves on that part.

After I settle down things, pitching my tent, and ask for additional information, I doze-off that afternoon. I haven't had enough sleep I guess, plus I'll be staying for how many nights in the island so no point of rushing anything, after all, I'm here to just chill.

When I woke up, I had this urge to drink a bottle of beer, I bring my own, you see, I almost bring everything, it saves me much, it doesn't matter if I am loaded with heavy backpack, it's much easier than to splurge a little more. I'm on budget trip so that's why.

After my senses came back (sleep got me, you know), I decided to walk on the farthest side of the beach, it was a long stretch of white sand around the corner and everything looks peaceful and breathtaking.

I am never this alone that I felt so good in all of my solo travel. The place is perfect for procrastination and just enjoy your own company while admiring the view. This gotta be one of my favorite solo travel.

Walking to the other side of the island took much time than I expected, little did I know, my favorite part of the day is about to happen in any minute so I walk back to my resort but before I reach my resort, sun was about to set, so I just sat there and wait for it.

The color of the surroundings is much more appealing and full of colors when you are on the place. It's as if you are inside of a beautiful painting. The color that speaks so many emotions and feelings.

I don't mind spending my remaining life watching sunset by myself, really. It is one of the most beautiful scene. Yepp, I am being biased, I am such a sunset person.

That first night was spectacular because of the view. After the sunset. I ate some bread and peanut butter and doze-off again.

It was a long night and I can already see the moon is about to be full. Excited for the next day!

If there's no videoke singing up until midnight my sleep would be solemn, but all good still, I plan on waking up the next day to catch a sunrise!

Sometimes, I have this feeling if I am being two timer with the sun. HAHA! Kidding aside, its just, I love sunset so much but seeing sunrise like this is I don't know, guess can't find the right words to say. Huh? Who will not be in love with this view anyway?

I walked fast to catch the sunrise on the other side of the island. On my way to General Luna port I was mesmerize by the sunrise already but didn't get a chance to take a photo of it because I was inside the van. But good thing about it is that I get to enjoy the view without being bothered if I take a good shot of it or not. Ya feel me? So I said to myself that the next morning I will not let it pass without taking at least one photo of it. So here it is.

Knowing night before that I will not be able to visit the famous Palad Sandbar and the Rock Formation, I know my fate for the whole day. I decided to have an early dip in the water and just chill for the rest of the day and of course sleep.

The water in Maniwaya Island is clear but there are some seaweeds nearby, I heard from one of the locals passing by that it is some of the locals who plants it there, not sure if it's true or what. There are stones so be careful when you go on swimming. The water is clean nonetheless.

It was so hot that day that I end up sleeping on the sand under a shed of tree all by myself. Even though the water is so inviting the sun will kill you to death.

Afternoon arrives I go back to my tent and grab some halo-halo then order some vegetables meal and have a small talk with the owners of the place and ask for some information because I plan on visiting the mainland and see Moriones Festival. When I am planning my Project 81, I said to myself that the moment I will visit Marinduque is the time when it is Moriones Festival. After all, I am already in Marinduque why not splurge a little more.

The owner of Wawie's resort is kind enough to help me go to Sta. Cruz port with their own boat. They will be fetching some guests on Buyabod Port and invite me to ride with the boat for free. Aaaah!! Thank you so much!

I am so excited for the full moon. But before that, sunset before full moon is much more different than the usual sunset. The first photo above are taken during this time.

It is my first time to be on the beach during this time of the moon so I browse over the internet to look for some tips on how to take a good shot of the moon.

Good thing I was able to find one and I am loving the result.

After admiring the moon I plan on sleeping because I need to wake up the next day to go to mainland. Again, there were guests who sings loud until midnight. Good thing I am really that sleepy for I was able to sleep immediately.

My own shot of full moon that night. First time to do it and ugr love the outcome!

Morning view in Maniwaya Island is so perfect with the moon still up in the sky. The colors are so wonderfully made. Clearly, these images are perfectly seen on beach and on the mountains. I am glad I did this trip for it is really a food for soul. I get to relax and enjoy my own company and just you know shut everyone for a while and to just enjoy the moment.

My 10th solo travel in Maniwaya Island dated last April 9-13 is an official entry to my 81 Before 30 Challenge.

I have an organize trip to Maniwaya Island this May 6-7 PM me for details :)
